  • Ambition and Objectives consultation Sustainability Appraisal Scoping consultation

    As Part of the New City Plan scoping stage, these documents were published for public comment earlier this year. The Ambition and Objectives consultation reflects the ambitions and recommendations in the Strategy for 2050. The Sustainability Scoping Report sets out the baseline against which the sustainability of the New City Plan can be assessed and develops a framework for assessing the Plan’s sustainability. The responses received are being used to inform the New City Plan and Sustainability Appraisal.
  • Carbon and Climate Study consultation

    Seeking views on the preparation of a Carbon and Climate Study, which is one of the evidence base studies that will inform the New City Plan. The study covers a wide range of different types of development and issues related to climate change. The survey asks for views on the likely impacts that climate change will create for Milton Keynes, and how you would like to see climate change addressed in the New City Plan.

    January 2024

    The current stage – part of developing the options for the New City Plan. We are carrying out informal engagement with the public as well as community and interest nd groups. This engagement includes a survey to gather views on your experiences of visiting and living and working in Milton Keynes, and what would improve these experiences. It also includes a series of workshops and focus groups with invited people to talk in more detail about these issues.
  • Draft New City Plan consultation

    September 2024

    Informed by all the earlier engagement and evidence, the Regulation 18 version of the New City Plan will be published for consultation. We will hold public exhibitions and publicise the consultation widely.
  • Final Draft New City Plan consultation

    Informed by comments received at the draft plan consultation stage and the finalised evidence, the Regulation 19 version of the New City Plan (also known as the ‘proposed submission’ plan) will be published for consultation.
  • Submission

    The New City Plan and evidence is submitted to the Secretary of State for examination by an independent planning inspector. The representations made at the Regulation 19 stage above are also sent to the inspector.
  • Examination

    Autumn 2025

    Upcoming

    Inspector holds examination in public to check that all legal and soundness tests have been met, and changes (or modifications) to the New City Plan will be published for consultation if needed.
  • Adoption

    Upcoming

    The New City Plan will be adopted following receipt of the Inspector’s Report, if found ‘sound’.
